Folks at Dawn Images got to catch up with the two mainstream members of the peace through music project, Atif Aslam and Lanny Cordola. They revealed interesting facts about the on-going ventures in the project and what could we expect from it in the coming years.
When Atif Aslam was asked about the core idea of the project, he said
It’s about how the Americans should see the brighter side of Pakistan which they haven’t as yet. This is why it’s called Peace through Music. The point of teaming up with American musicians was that there was no better way than that of music to let people from both the sides know what either of them thinks about the other. It’s not just going to be single song; it will be a documentary, a DVD that’ll include the backstage footage of the performances, studio shoots, etc. We will come up with new seasons every year.
With this project, Atif looks forward to improving the image of Pakistan in the west. That said, the project is making quite a lot of waves in Pakistan, but to accomplish what he wants, there should be even better marketing and distribution of the project in west.
Lanny also believes deeply in the power of project. He said
I believe to the depths of my being that this project will have a major impact on helping to bring about the transformation of Pakistan and America as well for that matter. Music is the healing force of the universe and we have the story which we have to tell. There is so much light in Pakistan, so much hope, so many angels, so many incredible sights and sounds.
Atif also revelased some interesting information about the songs which are part of the project
I have recorded a couple of songs. One is in Punjabi and another one is called Pakistan. Then there is a beautiful melody, Dreamer Awakes, by Lanny Cordola that I will sing with different famous musicians and artistes. The songs that I have recently composed are the English track Adam’s Coming out of Heaven and the Punjabi Ek Mein Ek Tu. We probably plan to launch it by the end of next year.
Atif also said that they intend to release this season-vise but again, that depends on the response of the first season. Lanny and Atif have already talked to some more international artists like Coldplay, U2 and John Mayer and plan to take them on board soon.

“It’s been four years since Masty and my fans were missing Ali Zafar, the singer,” says Ali Zafar who will be releasing a lot of music in the coming months. He has one Sufi album lined-up for the release and other than that he will be giving soundtrack for three films, two of them are Pakistani films.
Ali Zafar recently came back to Pakistan to record the title track for Reema’s upcoming film, which will be releasing soon, after getting a break from his long shooting schedule in India.
Other than acting he will also be singing playback in his forthcoming Yash Raj film “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan“, a romantic comedy co-starring Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif and will be singing three songs in it.
Ali Zafar will also be giving the soundtrack for Humayun Saeed’s Daag, a film based on a real-life story of a rape victim.
Recently, Ali Zafar was travelling across Mumbai to Goregaon West in Film City where he was shooting the music video for the title track of his third studio album “Jhoom“, which will be releasing by the year-end under Ali’s record company “Alif Records” and the proceeds from his new album (album sales and ring tones) will go into the rehabilitation of flood victims. He has written, composed, mixed and also arranged the songs of his new upcoming album. “The songs are more Sufist and make a distinction between what’s real and what’s fake, what’s permanent and what’s temporary.” says Ali Zafar.
It was not Tere Bin Laden which brought the Pakistani musician on the Bollywood map, but it was his music and precisely Coke Studio, “that fabulous concept” says Aarti Shetty producer TBL, brought Ali to India much before TBL did.
Ali Zafar’s fan following has always been huge because of his music and with so many music and acting projects in hand, his popularity promises to get bigger with time.

First it was the Prince of Pop, Ali Zafar, who made his bollywood acting debut with the film Tere Bin Laden, bagged a second-lead role in Yash Raj Films’ Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and another one, apparently in David Dhawan’s Chashme Badoor, and now its well known, that the heart-throb for millions of Asians, the Pop sensation, Atif Aslam, who will be making his acting debut in Bollywood in a film being produced by Kumar Taurani of Tips. Atif Aslam has already made his acting debut in a Pakistani film Bol, which has been directed by Shoaib Mansoor, and is slated to release next year.
Kumar Taurani who confirmed the news saying, “Yes, Atif will be making his Bollywood debut with my film. However, though I am saying this it should be clear that nothing is yet finalized, we are still talking to Atif.”
Vinnil Markan, the associate director of Prince, will direct the untitled film. Producers are not ready to reveal anything at this stage, but according to the sources, “Atif Aslam will star in the lead role in Kumar Taurani’s untitled next. Atif has been exclusively signed on with Tips as a singer for five years. But he has signed a three-film-deal with them as well.”
“Besides this, Atif has also signed on with Tips to release his music and albums, the first of which will happen next year in January after which we will formally announce the film with him in the lead. One more point that we are happy about and looking forward to is that Atif being the voice for many Bollywood stars will be singing and doing his own music for the film.”

The Prince of Pop, Ali Zafar has won over Indian hearts by saving the Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif from a big loss. Ali Zafar jumped to rescue the Katrina during the shooting of his upcoming romantic comedy Meray Brother Ki Dulhan.
According to reports, Ali Zafar jumped in to save Katrina when her hair got stuck in a pedestal fan on the set. Ali Zafar’s heroic act prevented Katrina from losing her hair.

One of the worst natural calamities in recent memory, the flood has been termed by International media as a "bigger disaster than the tsunami." 2 months on, we strongly feel that the response has been wanting in in the aspects of official patronage and long term rehabilitation. After the initial out pour where individuals went all out in providing food and relief goods to the affectees, there has been little effort to channelize these efforts into an organized response. Mismanagement and corruption has made it even more difficult to get aid across to the most deserving. The need for a planned long term rehabilitation program is being given little or no importance just like so many other important issues facing our country. Already since 2004 the meanwhile international Metal Battle with its finals at Wacken is taking place. Since then the number of participating countries is increasing further and also in 2011 they are going to present you 4 new participating countries.
Starting with India which is bringing the battle deeper into the Asian room over to Central America (consisting of El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua) which will send their ambassadors across the pond. Last but not least it proceed with Ireland and Latvia, increasing the number of participating countries in the European room.
India Would Be the 27th Country to Participate in the W:O:A Metal Battle. The competition would take place in India Later this year for the finals which would take place at Wacken 2011.

The Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards is kicking off again in October. And it’s back bigger and better. This time, we are looking for the hottest bands from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to be a part of the Jack Daniel's Annual Rock Awards to be held in January. The Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards is back scouting for the best bands not only in India but also Sri Lanka and Pakistan this year. The Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards has been all about encouraging, promoting and mentoring bands coming up with original music in India, and this year we are inviting bands from Pakistan and Sri Lanka to join the party
The winning bands from Sri Lanka and Pakistan will get a chance to play at the Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards build-up shows in India. The winning band from India will receive a sum of Rs. 1 Lac or a chance to attend an international music festival organized by Jack Daniel’s within 4 months of the awards function.
The Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards is a competition organized by Jack Daniel’s in association with Rolling Stone (“the Promoter”).
Open to persons aged 21 years or over only, excluding employees of the Promoter, its agencies and their families, agents and anyone else connected with this promotion. For the avoidance of doubt, for a band to be eligible, each member must be 21 or over.
Entries are accepted online. Entries will be accepted online at www.jdrockawards.com in the “How to Enter” section and a demo must be provided (uploaded onto the site or myspace url supplied where your songs are featured). By entering, the person submitting the entry guarantees that all band members agree to these terms and conditions. Only fully completed, legible, original paper entry forms will be accepted.
The Closing Date for entries from Sri Lanka is 12th October 2010, Pakistan is 24th October 2010 and India is 20th November 2010. Bands from Pakistan and Sri Lanka are eligible for nominations only for the Best Band of the Year (Critics Choice).
Third party or bulk applications will be invalid. No responsibility is accepted for any entry form or demo that is lost, delayed or damaged.
Uploaded songs will be judged by a panel made up of representatives of Jack Daniel’s and its music promotional agency.
Songs uploaded must have been released between 1st October 2009 and 30th September 2010.
The decision of the jury panel in shortlisting of the nominations in each category will be the final. The decision of the jury panel regarding the winners in each category will over ride the popular vote in case of different results as per the jury votes and the popular votes.
All elements of a participating band’s music, lyrics and performance must be in good taste. Each member of a participating band must at all times during participation in the competition and any associated activity conduct themselves properly and decently and no band (nor any of its members) shall do anything which in the judgement of Jack Daniel’s may be detrimental to the reputation of Jack Daniel’s. Any breach of this term may, at the discretion of any of the judges or the Promoter, result in disqualification from the competition.
The winning bands from Sri Lanka and Pakistan will get a chance to play at the Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards build-up shows in India. The winning band from India will receive a sum of Rs. 1 Lac or a chance to attend an international music festival organized by Jack Daniel’s within 4 months of the awards function.
Winners will be bound by the terms imposed by any third parties providing services as part of the prize. Promoter cannot accept responsibility for the acts or omissions of third parties.
All Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards entrants agree to their images (stills photography and/or video) and biographical details, as well as an audio and visual recordings of their performance(s) in the competition, being used for reasonable publicity purposes by Jack Daniel’s.

While i was in LA we recorded this song at gilby's studio and thought about how beautiful my world is-in this land, full of culture and traditions. Recording Pakistan was smooth , beautifully written by Mr. Lanny cordola and the verse of sufi saints completes it all. Pakistan gave me my home , my school , friends , my first bicycle , the cricket bat, manners , tolerance , patience , respect ,taught me how to reconstruct myself ( my mistakes ,, )……….fans …… ~~…………………. love .. ! ……….and a lot more. ………..
