Internationally acclaimed Pakistani pop artists endorse Azme Alishan by donating their inspirational song Ab Khud Kuch Karna Paray Ga. Strings and Atif Aslam have thrown their weight behind the fast-growing Azme Alishan initiative by donating their latest hit song to the patriotic movement at a special press conference in Karachi today.
The song “Ab Khud Kuch Karna Paray Ga” (We need to do something for ourselves) – a Strings collaboration with the international renowned and popular vocalist Atif Aslam – was launched to critical acclaim in July, its inspirational lyrics striking a chord with the youth in particular. However, many people responded by asking what they could practically do to make a difference. The artists’ have found positivity in Azme Alishan and its activities seen over the year.

Both Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadya pointed to the recent Azme Alishan Flood Relief drive as an example of the kind of thing people can do to make a change in the country.
“As a proud Pakistani, I would like to see more positive things bringing all Pakistanis together as one nation – to make Pakistan better”, said the pop star Atif Aslam. Ab Khud Kuch Karna Paray Ga will become Azme Alishan’s anthem, and will be promoted through a special 45-second television video where the artists endorse the movement and call on fellow Pakistanis to join in.
Azme Alishan is a national awareness drive initiated in March to celebrate the true values of Pakistan in this its 70th anniversary year. Ali Zafar made an impressive Bollywood debut in ‘Tere Bin Laden‘ and is now in Mumbai to pursue a career in movies. Ali recently managed to steal the limelight once again and left everyone surprised when he failed to recognise reigning queen of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif at a party last week. It is common knowledge that Ali and Katrina have been signed on for Yash Raj’s next film. So, when Katrina spotted her going to be co-star Ali whom she had seen and liked in Tere Bin Laden, she thought it would be nice if she went up to him and made some polite conversation. But Katrina, was instead, greeted by a blank Ali Zafar, who remained oblivious to the fact that she is his co-star.
Says an eyewitness, “Ali clearly didn’t recognize Katrina. Though he was polite, he had a quizzical who-are-you look on his face and left the stunner stunned. It was an embarrassing moment for Katrina. But she handled it with aplomb. She gracefully introduced herself as her co-star in the Yash Raj film that they were doing, welcomed him to Mumbai and walked off.”
When Katrina was asked about the embarrassing incident she shrugged it off with a laugh, “It’s true. Ali looked at me quite strangely at the party last week. What’s the big deal? He’s new to Bollywood. It will take him time to know everyone. I’ve been here for four years. I still don’t know everyone.”
The following day, they both met again at the Yash Raj office and it seems Katrina had load of fun because this time it was Ali’s time to get embarrassed. Katrina says, “I met Ali at the Yash Raj office a day after the party. I went up to him and said I hope he recognizes me.”
Well, Ali has just begun his journey of fame and recognition in Bollywood and has proved his potential among the young lot with his comic caper ‘Tere Bin Laden’ but he really needs to up his Bollywood quotient to avoid any further embarrassing situations.

Lady Gaga has long supported a repeal of the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, but this week she has been especially active in the cause. At VMAs she walked the white carpet with four members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a group that opposes the policy. And in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that aired Monday, Gaga asked her fans to contact Senator Harry Reid, the politician leading the charge to end Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and ask that he set in motion a vote on the matter. And then, the Senator himself reached out to Gaga on Twitter.
"There is a vote on [Don't Ask, Don't Tell] next week. Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so," Reid wrote in a tweet addressed to Lady Gaga. "God Bless and Thank you @HarryReid, from all of us, like u, who believe in equality and the dream of this country. We were #BORNTHISWAY," Gaga wrote in reply (while referencing the title of her next album.) Reid ended the unlikely corresponce this way: "It's the right thing to do. Come back to Vegas soon!"
Reid later said that next week's vote was planned prior to Gaga's call to her fans. "Senator Reid has reiterated his commitment to repealing the military's ban on gays serving in our armed forces. This afternoon, he informed Republicans that he intends to bring the Defense Authorization Bill — including the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy — to the Senate Floor next week," a statement on Reid's web site said. Meanwhile, the SLDN is imploring people to "answer Lady Gaga's call" and contact their senators to demand they "vote with Sen. Reid and Sen. Carl Levin in opposing the filibuster, defeat amendments to strike repeal, and defeat any crippling amendments" before next week's vote.

British Pakistani music artist, Annie Khalid, was appointed to be the Goodwill Ambassador for the International Red Cross on September 23rd, 2010.
She has been supporting and contributing in various activities to raise funds for the victims of the floods in Pakistan. Annie Khalid, who has already made it big in the Pakistani music scene, is now launching her pop career in the UK with the single “Be My Baby” mixed by DJ Judge Jules, and a music video directed and produced by Bradley.tv.
All the proceeds from this UK debut single would be donated to the flood victims in Pakistan.
“It’s the worst disaster that has hit Pakistan andbeing a Pakistani it’s my duty to give whatever I can, so through this song I am doing that.” She said.
Annie was recently in Norway where she raised money with the Red Cross for the flood victims in Pakistan.
Being a global artist she feels she can work for various causes and bridge gaps between communities. She has a registered charity with which she would like to raise health and education awareness worldwide.
Annie received the honor from the Red Cross Secretary General, Borge Brende on stage.“I am ecstatic and I was taken aback when my name was announced. I believe it’s not only a big honor but also a big responsibility. This has given me an opportunity to represent my country on an international level. Therefore, I will try and live up to all the expectations. Its not only an achievement for me, its an achievement for my country as well.” she said.

Following months of speculation, Fox have confirmed the rumours that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will be a judge on next season's 'American Idol'.
Steven Tyler will join pop diva Jennifer Lopez and returning judge Randy Jackson on what will be the show's 10th outing. Speaking about his new role on the reality TV show, Tyler said at a press conference. "It's being a part of something much bigger than yourself. I want to bring some rock to this roller coaster and show you that if you got the heart, you got the talent and you got the feeling to do this, you could be the next American Idol."
It has been a rocky twelve months for Aerosmith and rumours emerged that 62-year-old Tyler would be joining the American Idol team way back in the summer, with members of his band Aerosmith unsure of the move. In an attempt to avoid further ructions within the band, Joe Perry, lead guitarist for the group, confronted Tyler about the American Idol rumour about a month ago only to discover that the frontman was under strict instructions not to discuss it with anyone.
Perry said, “I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this. Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?”
Certainly worrying times for Aersomith fans who have recently seen Tyler take another step away from the band to record a solo single 'Love Lives'. The track is set to feature in the upcoming Japanese film 'Space Battleship Yamato'.
The 10th season of American Idol will begin in January.
