Uth Records - Episode 2 - Yasir & Jawad - Part 1

A contemporary folk music group from Peshawar, having initially formed the band in 2008, Yasir Rehman and Jawad Iqbal added a third musician to the Y&J band in 2010, Abdul Wali Orakzai . With Yasir on the traditional instrument, the Rubaab, Jawad on Rhythm Guitar and Wali as lead vocalist, the band recently recorded a single, yet to be released with Zeeshan Parwez of Zeepar Studios.

The band has enjoyed developing compositions and structures with the Uth Records and team and to this end, Yasir, Jawad and Wali have said "It was our first experience working with such great artists of Pakistan. They are highly talented and really hard working. In fact recording was a tough procedure as they pushed us to strive for perfection which transformed our simple melody into something exceptional".

About the book Rock and Roll Jihad: A Muslim Rock Star's Revolution

Salman Ahmad offers a fascinating glimpse into the complicated existence of a Pakistani whose unconventional life bridges the Muslim world and the West. As a teenager living in a New York City suburb, he fell in love with rock, dreamed of playing guitar in a band, and though his parents looked down upon what they thought was a ridiculous fantasy, determined to wage "a rock and roll jihad." He formed bands in both America and Pakistan, eventually transforming himself into a Pakistani national icon. He played the first-ever rock concert in war-torn Kashmir and, in December 2007, became the first Pakistani musician to perform at a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. He fills his story with colorful, often funny anecdotes of such incidentals as squiring Mick Jagger around Lahore (Jagger was in town attending World Cup play) and witnessing the 50-something rocker gyrate with a local dancing girl. Other anecdotes, especially after 9/11, are more somber. A hopeful, sensitive memoir in which music functions as a healing bond between peoples and cultures. --June Sawyers

PARIS HILTON Converts To ISLAM

Former American socialite,model, singer and actress Paris Hilton has converted to Islam, her spokesman, Ian Brinkham, has revealed to CBS News.

“She (Paris Hilton) has been toying with the idea for quite a while now and when she was imprisoned at Century Regional Detention Facility in 2007, she encountered a few people who had already converted,” Mr Brinkham said.

By converting to the Muslim faith, Paris Hilton has decided to shun her old life as a celebrity skank.

Speaking from an Islamic study retreat in Jeddah, she said: “I have now found total peace in my life. Before, I used to be known as an STD-ridden streetwalker , a ‘hoe’ and a person of loose morals, but now, things have changed. Allah be praised.”

Paris Hilton plans to return to Los Angeles next week to start her own Islamic school in the middle of Beverly Hills.

“Forget Scientology or Kaballah. ISLAM is the religion to be in now. I’m not going to be wearing a piece of red string on my wrist or walk around like a robot talking to Xenu. Islam is the new must-have religion. and I’m going to spread the word of the Koran to everyone,” an excited Paris Hilton said.

Paris Hilton also plans to change her name to ‘Tahirah’ which means ‘Pure, chaste’ in Arabic. Paris Hilton's Islamic school will open in July and is set to become a popular Hollywood spiritual haunt for many celebrities.

Last time, it was in news that JAL THE BAND is going to be the part of COKE STUDIO Season 4. And now INDIAN EXPRESS published a news that Indian singer RABBI SHERGILL is gonna perform in COKE STUDIO Season 4.

According to Indian Express,

“The singer (Rabbi Shergill) flew to Pakistan on Saturday for about a week for what would be the first Indo-Pak collaboration by Coke Studio Season 4. The bid to get Rabbi to be a part of the fourth season started late last year.”

“Rabbi Shergill is believed to be planning to sing compositions of Bulleh Shah, the evergreen Sufi poet of the 17th century, Punjabi folk singer Yamla Jat (who has struck a chord by delving on the plight of the diaspora of Punjab), and poems of noted Punjabi poet and critic Dr Harbhajan Singh.”

STRINGS & EUPHORIA Together For AMAN KI ASHA

STRINGS and EUPHORIA worked earlier together for the song JEET LO DIL and now they are working together for the popular AMAN KI ASHA project. STRINGS and EUPHORIA are recording a song AMAN KI ASHA which is written by PALASH SEN, vocalist of EUPHORIA.

According to Hindustan Times, Strings is scheduled to fly down to India in February, 2011 for the studio recording of the track which will also be included in Euphoria’s upcoming untitled album.

“Every Indian and Pakistani citizen wants peace. And Aman Ki Asha is all about that. It is a message-oriented song which says both countries need to progress together,” says Faisal Kapadia, vocalist of Strings.
