82Rocker (Kamran Ahmed) In HINDUSTAN TIMES

Kamran Ahmed aka 82Rocker is a big hit here in India and he gave an interview to the Hintusdan Times. Here is the interview of the Kamran Ahmed.

HT : Did you pre-empt the success of Lambi judaai?
KA : Nope. Actually, I never expected it to be used in a film. It had been all over the radio stations in the UK, the US, Canada and Pakistan for over six months. It was on internet too. Deejays in Indian clubs were playing the song remixed. Then in January, Mukesh Bhatt asked me for the song since it suited a situation in one of his films. I came to India in February and worked on the song.

HT : Are you happy with the way your song was picturised?
KA : I have no complaints.

HT : Apparently, you were supposed to be featured in the movie.
KA : No. I’ve appeared in a promotional video. I’m not sure if it has been released.

HT : What’s your prime focus now?
KA : My debut album, Judaai. Talks are on with some music companies. In the interim, I hope to release a couple of singles and videos. I don’t want to jump at offers without creating a base of my work. It’s essential to be grounded. I have to be someone before I take on more film work.

HT : Recently, Pakistani singer, Najam Sheraz, accused the Bhatts of plagiarising his work.
KA : I don’t agree with what Sheraz bhai. I’ve been given my due credits as a singer, composer and lyric writer formy song. It was well publicised too.

HT : What is the current status of the music industry in Pakistan..given the conditions of political uncertainty?
KA : Nothing can draw Pakistanis away from music. The most affected are those who sold music on the roadside.. and some who are majorly into politics. But these are just a handful of people.Pakistanis are passionate about music in any form. They even love fusing rock with other genres like sufi and classical. And I must tell you, Pakistanis are hugely passionate about cricket, Indian movies and Shah Rukh Khan.

HT : But a certain Indian singer says that Pakistan doesn’t welcome Indian artistes as large-heartedly as we welcome Pakistani singers.
KA : I don’t agree with that all. I was in Pakistan recently. They all love Indian artistes, be it its KK, Kailash Kher or Sonu Niigaam. When I came to India, I saw Pakistani music playing on top of the charts here. So, as far as I can see, there’s a healthy interexchange.

HT : Would you say Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are competition?
KA : No, no.They’ve made our country proud by doing so well in India. I’m glad I’m rubbing shoulders with my brothers.

KEEP ROCKING
.

Seems like that Kamran doesn't know the Pakistani music well and the Murder story as well. The Bhatts had originally pirligrized Najam's "Menu Teray Naal" as "Bheegay Hont Teray". They had already rewritten song and recorded it with Kunal's lyrics. After the release of sound track, Najam came to know about it. Than he contacted the Bhutts; thereafter Najam asked them to legaliz it. Bhutts offered Najam money but he refused it. That year in almost all awards shows "Bhegay Hont Teray" got awards for Best Song of year and best composition as well but it was not Najam who was nominated for composing the song but it was Anu Malik and they even didn't bother to thank Najam in their award speeches. Between, the Bhutts made 7 crores out of this song. Thereafter, Bhutts had asked Najam to sing "Wo Lamhe" of Atif but he refused to do so and get Atif connected with Bhutts. So Najam has a big role in Atif's fame today. So Kamran had najam not made that transaction legalized; even your Judai would have been ripped off without your permission and all the credits.

Seems like Kamran is not very well versed about the Bhegay Hont teray story. The Butts had ripped off Najam's "Menu Teray Naal" as "Bheegay Hont Teray" in Kunal's vocals. After music release, when Najam came to know about it. He contacted Butts on which Butts apologized and Najam asked them to legalize the transaction; despite offer of money from Butts he did not took a single penny from them. And remember Butts made 7 crore rupees from this track. "Bheegay Hont Teray" won all the major awards in categories of best singer and best song of the year but no credit was ever given to Najam in award speeches.

Moreoever, Butts had asked Najam to sing "Wo Lamhay" from Atif's Jal Pari but Najam refused saying he cannot do unjustice to his fellow up coming Pakistani artist. And he was the one who get Atif connected with Butts.

And Kamran, had Najam not legalized the matters, your song would have been ripped off as well without any credits. So man you must do your homework first.

Thanx for the nice bro.
But i think later,Bhatt and Najam had some deal because later one remix album came of the muvi Murder and in tht album Mainu Tere Naal was there in the voice of Najam. Even the vdo was on air on Indian tv channels and obviously Najam was thr in that vdo....

Yeah it was after when Najam had himself approached Mahesh Butt and asked for legalizing the contract. Than the video was shot. If you get the video of the award shows from that year his name was not nominated for the award shows. Even though the contract was signed well before the award shows.

And its really a new thing for me that Najam was supposed to sing Wo Lamhe....thanx for the info

Hassan Nasir May 26, 2008 at 10:04 PM

yeah that's fact. You can watch Azfar Mani Show's May 17th Episod on YouTube. Najam mentioned it there too. And Atif in his one of interviews on The News has confessed that Najam was one who got him connected to the Butts. Here is the link

Even Butts had said that Najam introduced them to Atif; following Jal's allegations on the Butts for stealing their song Wo Lamhay. After which Butt gave credits of Aadat to Jal but asked Atif to sing it for his movie; becuase Jal had won the case of copyrights of Aadat and Wo Lamhay because when Atif was Jal as well, the songs were registered as copyrights of Jal.

Shaan Haider May 26, 2008 at 10:19 PM

I've d idea abt tht copyrite fight btw Atif n Jal...the latest is going on between Roxen n Omer Nadeem

Anonymous,  May 28, 2008 at 1:48 PM

guys...roxen...annie...kamran....bla bla bla...all were credited...

at najam and atif's...it was the first time...intial confusions...but later on all other artists went throught proper procedures...

they all have their own deals...and decisions....sell your music...your credits ...whatever....its artist dependent...so every artist has her/his own satisfaction and comments regarding the indian market and people !!

Hassan Nasir May 28, 2008 at 2:02 PM

well, najam has been most positive about indian market so has been other paki artist who have landmarked in Pakistan. the journalist interviewing Kamran has himself used a harsh work "accused". Najam hasn't accused Butts recently. In fact he was asked this question on Lehrain TV that why he was not given credit. And replied positively saying that it was initial stept from his side. Because the illegal copying was happening both in india and pakistan. "After reaching out to Butts it has been legalized which is bigger achievement to me; than collecting royalities or asking for more credits; and thereafter he was given credits for his song" when Emran Hashmi had introduced Najam to Malaka Sharawat saying that he is the guy who made us big stars.

I have not heard a single Pakistani artist being negative about Indian market or people. They in fact very happy and want to strenthen this bridge which has been built through music.

At ANONYMOUS....you cant call it 'confusion' . When somebody is copying or stealing then that person can not be confused about the credits. Even if the owner of track is out of ur reach to contact, u can mention his /her name for the composition of song on credits.... So u just can't call it confusion

Shaan Haider May 28, 2008 at 3:00 PM

One more thing is that now they can't hide the real songs from Indian ppl as they are very much in Paki music now. So u can call it a burden that they don't any other option than to go with legal deals with Paki artists.....for me it was a shock when i heard the song Bheege Honth Tere and for my friends, it was a shock when they got Wo Lamhe in Zeher coz i performed that song in my university months before the release of the muvi

Shaan Haider May 28, 2008 at 3:02 PM

Hassan bro...thanx for the links and its really nice to c that u r having all these datas available evrytime.

Hassan Nasir May 28, 2008 at 4:39 PM

They know it all. You know Butts had given Najam copy of Atif's CD saying that there is track in it which we want you to sing. And as a matter of fact most of the times, the contact numbers are mentioned; or at least the web URL is there; it has emails and all other things. So it was all intentional.

Shaan Haider May 28, 2008 at 4:46 PM

That's why i said that u can't call it Mistake or Confusion.... They are not a kid that they do not have idea, how to contact a person.

Hassan Nasir June 19, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Please watch this interview and you will know; Najam is explaining entire story of Bheegay Hont teray incident.
